Memorial Day Weekend Road Trip

Sometimes I get crazy ideas. These crazy ideas usually involve jumping in a car late at night and driving somewhere for a weekend adventure. Lucky for me, my college buds encouraged this craziness. Unlucky for me, I haven't had those buds around for the past year. Boo. But, this month, Bobby decided to humor my craziness. Enter Memorial Day weekend.

I think our initial conversation went something like this:

Me: I need to visit Niagara Falls before I move.
B: We could do Toronto during the same trip since it's so close.
Me: Yeah! Let's do Palmyra too.
B: Sounds good.
Me: Memorial day weekend?
B: Sure.
Me: So that's like...what...14 hours of driving?

And let me tell you, this road trip was awesome. Minus the car sickness.

We used Telus (bike share) to get around in Toronto, so we were able to see plenty of sites and eat some amazing food without feeling overly guilty: breakfast at Over Easy, Bubble Tea and Szechuan Chicken in Chinatown, Melona bars from the Korean market, and Jamaican beef and chicken patties in Jamaica Town.

Niagara was a quick stop for us, we pretty much just walked along the river front path, took some pictures, then hopped back in our car to get a move on to Palmyra. It was the perfect amount of time to spend in a super touristy area.

Palmyra. Ohhh Palmyra. Let's just say that it was definitely hot and humid there (unlike Toronto or Niagara which had both been freezing cold), and we were definitely walking around outside for the majority of the day. Needless to say I was a sweaty mess, but it was neat to see the sites. We visited the Temple, Sacred Grove, Printing shop, and Hill Cumorah. However, I think my favorite part about Palmyra was our fabulous Bed & Breakfast hostess Irene. She runs the Liberty House B&B and had the best stories to tell.

To sum it up, Memorial Day weekend was a success with plenty of good food, beautiful sites, and the best company!

The Return of Midnight Baking

Bliss: baking at midnight to Joshua Radin. It's my happy place.

This braided lemon bread did not disappoint. Simply divine. And definitely better after cooling overnight. I think I just found my new summer brunch go-to. Next up, blackberry.

Art.

When I see work like this, it reminds me why I love painting. How amazing would it be to still have the time for a couple hours of 'art therapy' every day?

Paint party at my house this weekend.

My Life in Incomplete Sentences

So refreshed, recharged, and happy after having Bobby in town for a four day weekend.

So excited to be living in Chicago in just over a month.

So overwhelmed by all of the stuff I need to sort through, donate, and pack before I move.

Blown away by the fact that I've lived in Michigan for 11 months already.

Happy gas prices have dropped for the first time in a long time.

Not so happy about my new commute: 10 minutes is now suddenly 45 minutes. gross.

Loving the new-found sunshine and occasional blue skies in Michigan.

Excited to be rid of my car and become a full time zip car user in just one month.

Incredibly grateful for my amazing momma today.

So happy to be back in Chicago next weekend.

Lucky to have this amazing guy in my life for over a year now...

Dear Midwest Winter

Get over yourself. It's May. I'd like some blue skies and temperatures above 45 degrees. Capiche?
