My 30 Something Year Old Co-Worker Called Me 'Kiddo' at Work Today.

Yup.

If he's allowed to call me 'kiddo,' can I just go ahead and reclaim my pre-adulthood life? I'd really be ok with that arrangement.

Photo Fail.

Guys, I'm the worst. Easter weekend was amazing: cute boyfriend in town, awesome eats*, awesome outfits, awesome date, awesome homemade Easter dinner, awesome awesomeness...and I took a grand total of two photos, and they weren't even with my camera, they were on my phone. Fail.

*If anyone wants one of the best foodie weekends of their life, please come visit me in Detroit before I leave. The city may be a little sketch, but their food is phenom.

Slow's + Heidelberg

Bobby came to visit me in D Rock City this weekend & I tried my best to pack all of my city favorites in to 48 hours, which included a visit downtown to Slow's BBQ + the Heidelberg project. We didn't make it to the Dequindre Cut (amazing graffiti) this time, but I'll be sure to do a post on that before I move.

Detroit has a truly unique vibe to it...I've never experienced another city like it. Abandoned and burned out high rises, apartment buildings, churches, and homes are the norm downtown. Honestly, if you didn't know any better, you could easily think that Detroit had just recently witnessed a civil war. The GM headquarters stick out like a sore thumb and remind me of Wayne Enterprises from Batman: huge, gleaming glass buildings surrounded by comparably dark and dirty buildings. When I first moved here, saying I was terrified of downtown would've been the understatement of the year, but now I find it fascinating more than anything else. Of course you still need to be careful and use your common sense when visiting, but this place is full of gems*.

If you ever visit the Detroit area, you have to venture downtown for Slow's BBQ. It is the best BBQ I have ever had, and I don't hand out BBQ compliments often. It's located right across the street from the large abandoned train station, in a part of town that makes me wish I could've seen Detroit back in the early 1900s during its glory days.

The Heidelberg Project is fascinating to say the least. It's a little scary to get to since you have to drive through neighborhoods with abandoned and dilapidated homes, but it's worth the trip. In my opinion, it's one part Seussical, and one part Crazy Carni (think Coney Island).

*I swear this place is going to become the next Williamsburg/Brooklyn in the next 10 years. There's been a major influx of artists & musicians in just the past ten months that I've been here, a plethora of beautiful new real estate built that is dirt cheap ($80,000 for a 2BR/2BA literally across the street from Comerica Park), and a city that is literally brimming with the ever-essential irony. Mark my words, this place is prime for a hipster takeover.

This Man is My Hero

Some people develop strong relationships with their parents while they're still living at home, but I don't think my relationship with my Dad really even started until I left for college. And let me tell you, I have gained so much respect for him over these past six years. Sure we have our ups and downs just like any healthy family relationship, but I am one lucky girl to have a Dad like him.

A Dad who challenges me to always go one step further than I thought I could go; does everything in his power to help me reach my goals; encourages me to embrace my creativity; believes in me no matter what my absurd new interest is; has the best business advice out there; is never afraid to dole out the harsh truth that everybody else is just too nice to vocalize; is ridiculously smart; knows just as much about cars as professional mechanics do; will talk about boys with me; and perhaps best of all, will still occasionally let me pretend I'm not an adult and take care of my life for me when I just can't take the stress of the logistics anymore*. Like this week. When my car blew up.

-----
*But for the record, I did do my own taxes this year all on my own. No dad help, no boyfriend (aka accountant) help, nada. That should count for something.
