The Belmont Summer Extravaganza

It's a fact, the Belmont Pool is the most entertaining place to people watch in all of Provo. Everyone in P-town seems to hate on Belmont, and I in no way am trying to do that with this summer-time edition to my blog. I myself am a Belmontian, so trust me, I'm not a hater. I just like a good laugh :)

After spending a couple weekends at the pool with a few different friends, we've decided that some of the incidents we experience poolside at the good ol' BC are just too good to keep to ourselves. The proposal? Keep a summer-long blog complete with BC photos, quotes, and stories. We hope you enjoy the posts to come!

My Friends

I have the best friends in the world. When Nate called off our wedding two weeks ago, my world literally came crashing down. The guy I've been head over heels for for over a year, and engaged to for 4 months no longer wants anything to do with me. Talk about a life changing punch to the stomach. It's been really hard to deal with, but I have to admit that during this all, I've realized how amazing my friends are.

First and most importantly, I've come to realize how much Jesus Christ loves and understands each one of us. He can comfort me better than anyone else because of the Atonement. He knows exactly how I feel. He knows the hurt, the heartache, the sadness, and the loneliness that I've experienced. He is truly The Comforter.

My family is pretty dang awesome as well. I really really really love my family. They're the best. My mom left to come stay with me as soon as I called her and told her the news at, oh 3:00 AM Monday morning...she stayed with me for a week. She made sure I had time to just cry it out and stay in bed, and then also get out, do some paint therapy, get a pedicure, and of course, always get me food and try to convince me that I did at some point have to eat more than just carnation instant breakfast shakes. And the boys of the family are just as awesome. They've been nothing but supportive...I love them all so much.

These girls have been my saving grace in Provo. They were some of the first to know about the break up. They've made sure that I always have something to do, and are nothing but positive support for me. They listened the morning after Nate broke my heart, and they still listen to me whenever I just need to cry it out. They are serious rock stars. Love them.

...the list of friends could really go on for a long time. I've had a lot of great friends really reach out and be an awesome support system. Bottom line: I love my friends. They have been nothing but awesome in a time that I've needed it the most :)

A Broken Heart

"And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost" (3 Nephi 9:20).

This scripture now means more to me than ever. Quite literally right now, my heart is broken. I've felt like I have nothing left to offer in life this week. My heart, the symbol of love in my own being, has been crushed. However, I have discovered more than ever in the past week that I have relied on the Lord more and more. Maybe there's a connection here...

Trust in the Lord

Life always seem to take me by surprise. Maybe it's more predictable for you, but for me, it never seems like I actually know what's around the next corner. I'm a planner. I like to have a life plan at all times; don't get me wrong, I like to have spontaneous fun, but as far as the big decisions go, I like to plan those out way in advance. So when life suddenly throws me a HUGE curveball, it's not exactly my favorite moment.

I like to try to keep a positive attitude though. Two of my favorite scriptures that get me through these moments are Isaiah 12:2 and 2 Nephi 4:34.

"God is my salvationl; I will trust, and not be afraid: for the Lord Jehovah is my strength and my song." (Isaiah 12:2)

"Oh Lord, I have trusted in thee, and I will trust in thee forever...yea, I know that God will give liberally to him that asketh. Yea, my God will give me, if I ask not amiss; therefore I will lift up my voice unto thee; yea, I will cry unto thee, my God, the rock of my righteousness. Behold, my voice shall forever ascend up unto thee, my rock and mine everlasting God." (2 Nephi 4:34-35)

These two scriptures are most often the first things that come to thought when unexpected (and not so welcome) surprises come my way.

As of late, one of the most important people to me in my life let me down in a huge way. It hurts, there's no way of getting around it. Yet, I know that God will never let me down as long as I trust in Him. Easier said than done though. Trusting in God that things will work out the way He intended is often times a huge pill to swallow when God's plans seem to be the polar opposite of my own. However, I've realized I have to just keep telling myself "Lord, I have trusted in thee and I will trust in thee forever."

The End of School

This semester has definitely been a semester of firsts for me. The first semester I never had a burn-out. The first semester I've actually enjoyed ALL of my classes; the first semester I don't have a single written final; the first semester I've been engaged (lol); the first semester I've decided I'm staying in Provo for spring and summer; the first semester I've realized that I'm now officially "old" at college.

I think the biggest thing I've realized this semester is that I'm comfortable being myself. For example, I'm not graduating on time this April. But I'm ok with that. I found what I love to do, even if it'll take me an extra year to get my degree in it. And besides, who ever said it was a race to the finish line of college? I've also realized how much I love my family. I love how tight we are with each other...lol I don't think I know of a family who uses more minutes on their phones with each other than we do! I talk to at least my mom and one of my brothers each day. Having Daniel out here at school with me has helped me become closer to him than I was before, and I'm so grateful for that since he'll be leaving this year on a mission.

Mmm...so moral of the story: I love life right now, especially school and my family.

Funniest Dating Analogy on Earth

Ok, so my friend Kayce from home is hysterical. Everyone--especially boys--should read this post about dating. It explains dating in terms of baseball, and is just downright hysterical!

All are Part of The Test

When life becomes almost more than I can bear, I often turn to my scriptures. Sometimes I honestly feel so lost I don't know where to read, but know that I should, so I just start reading randomly as I flip through the Book of Mormon reading sections I've highlighted.

This morning I came across this quote I had written in my scriptures years ago:

"Some are tested by poor health, some by a body that is deformed or homely. Others are tested by handsome and healthy bodies; some by the passion of youth; others by the erosions of age. Some suffer disappointment in marriage, family problems; others live in poverty and obscurity. Some (perhaps this is the hardest test) find ease and luxury. All are part of the test and there is more equality in this testing than sometimes we suspect" --Boyd K. Packer

The last sentence of this quotation really got me thinking. I really believe that there is a reason we go through everything. I try to keep this in mind when life gets hard and I just want to cry. "There is more equality in this testing than sometimes we suspect." We're meant to go through the challenges that present themselves to us in life. We're meant to do it. Our Heavenly Father knows what we each need to learn in life and which tests are capable of teaching us those lessons.
